covert_one commented on rob's comment 1 day ago

rob commented on rikko's comment 1 day ago

damn. really need some auckland dudes to go check this out and find that other building you mentioned that sounds like another entrance. i bet the library or local council will have plenty of information regarding the tunnels and their entrances.

rob commented on covert_one's post 1 day ago

but if you have any ideas chuck em out there.

rob commented on covert_one's post 1 day ago

im keen whenever really... a friday or saturday night would suit best though. i figured we were waiting til reaper got back... so like the friday or saturday on the weekend he's here? i can do either. could go to sullivans or the twisted hop, or theres a pretty cool bar in vic square that sells random craft beers from around the country. yum.

covert_one commented on reaper's post 2 days ago

so what's happening with this urbex meet up?

rob commented on covert_one's comment 2 days ago

yeah i considered bridging the gap back onto the building to circumvent the gate in the crane but sissied out too ;) theres those two other, slightly smaller cranes in town also. i cant see *any* gates stopping people from climbing them right to the top... did mean to get off my arse and get some shots of a new semi-abandoned location this weekend, but with the shitty weather i instead ended up haxing my 360 and spent the entire weekend, monday & tuesday playing IV online. damn.

covert_one commented on asphyxiac's experience 3 days ago

went here the other nite with oosty/asphyxiac, but fuckface forgot the camera :P got up onto the roof this time, as the other guys didn't the first time they went up. had a wee bit of a fright when the police car pulled up right outside the main entrance with it's lights flashing, but it turns out it was just pulling some dickhead over... with a quick "thank you" to the big man upstairs we continued up. very easy to get on top of the crane from the roof, you just gotta have the sack to step off the building onto it. my sack shriveled back up inside of me so we did not attempt to get up there. could see some rich cunts in the penthouse sweet of the grand chancellor. bastards.

That's about five minutes from where I live - this is what the stream starts off like: http://flickr.com/photos/36251685@N00/300763143/ There used to be a bridge over it called (somewhat ironically) 'London Bridge'. The fish and chip shop in Aro St has pics of it - this big jerry-rigged timber thing. The stream goes all the way down to the harbour where they've set up this weird artificial wetlands thing in a park. If you'd gone down Epuni St, just after the shops on the right, there's the ruins of a WWII hospital in a reserve. It's mostly overgrown so I've never been able to determine how much has been left. Can't seem to find photos of it extant either.

Here's a bit of additional info that might be of interest...even so far as to prove the existance of an old subway under central Auckland. Excerpts from several sources... "On no project of metropolitan benefit did the Council labour longer, if not always consistently, than a modern electric railway system featuring a central city tunnel. First proposed in 1923, the scheme languished until 1950, finally being scrapped by the National Governmant in 1976." "The Herald had a telling chart of the decades of years of talking and reports on rail but never any action. And people wonder we are so cynical things will ever change? 1923: Railways minister Gordon Coates supports city-to-Morningside underground rail link. 1937: Underground rail link briefly raised as a way to relieve unemployment. 1949: Government promises electrification. 1951: City bureaucrats begin pushing a "roads first" policy. 1950s: Politicians join bureaucrats in favour of motorways. 1969: New ...read more

man... the chch city council USED to have all its GIS data available online, but the fuckers got greedy and closed it up so they could charge for it. from what i gather, based on the PDFs they have generated and made available on their site, they have a fucking sweet system that you can essentially run a query on (say all stormwater pipes with a diameter over 1.5M) and have it generate a map. need to h4x the city council. one technique for finding drains with google earth etc is to start with the major rivers/creeks, follow them back upstream and look for the tell-tale signs of an outlet, often the shape of the bank can give it away. you can also look for creeks/streams that seem to end abruptly, this pretty much guarantees an inlet/outlet. i seem to remember reading a cave clan doc a while ago that suggested getting copies of older maps and comparing them to new ones, back in the day it was pretty common for city planners to pipe up natural streams if they got in the way...read more

covert_one commented on rob's comment 11 days ago

Yea, i'm thinking were guna have to see in there soon. theres tagging on the inside of the windows, so fuckhead G-Bangers have probably gone in there before.

reaper commented on p0stal_b0b's photo 11 days ago

Cute.

p0stal_b0b commented on p0stal_b0b's post 11 days ago

For my own protection, I don't have/give out plans, but the concept is pretty straightforward. You can find the general principles of operation at www.howstuffworks.com, & then improvise from there. It's basically like a supersoaker, except I use a compressor instead of a handpump, & a 12 litre stainless steel fire extinguisher instead of a plastic bottle... :)

rob commented on covert_one's comment 11 days ago

the red brick one is the only part i havent been to. im 99% sure its joined to the silos underground at the basement level. we went to the far end of the basement and started to climb some stairs but they were covered in a good 2 inches of rotting pidgeon shit, the stench of that stuff once we started to walk on it was enough to send us packing. however if it was dry it probably wouldnt be as bad...

covert_one commented on p0stal_b0b's post 11 days ago

fuck. impressive.

covert_one commented on rob's comment 11 days ago

Yea, i said that to asphyxiac while we were in there.

covert_one commented on rob's comment 11 days ago

Yea, there used to be a giant white building, that used to beep so we were pretty sure was alarmed, thats been removed. You can see the bulldozer (i think) in this photo still. have you been into that red brick building?
