raptor's experience @ Australia World CollegeAustralia World CollegeI have been in Sydney for a week on holiday, and we went to a place called the Blue Mountains, which is essentially a heritage park with a lot of spectacular views of gorges, forests, waterfalls and cliffs. We caught a train there from Sydney (it costs $48 and is a 2 hour train ride, and the views alone are worth the time and money) and on the way in to Katoomba (a small town which effectively acts as the basecamp for all the stunning vistas) I noticed this big, run-down building with a bunch of graffiti on the roof. We spent most of the day taking in the sights, doing some of the walks and being tourists, but found ourselves with a little time to kill, so we decided to check out the local Imax. Once we got there and ascertained there was nothing of value on, I suggested taking a look at this building which was right behind the cinema. We walked behind the cinema and across a field, coming at the complex from what I guess was the front, there was a small outer building (the first few pictures) that was easily accessible through an unlocked door, which contained a bunch of exam papers, broken chairs and tables and other assorted junk. We scoped this out, and then crept through a hole in the fence which gave us access to the main building. The building looked fairly tightly locked down at ground level, with several reasonably accessible entry points on the second storey. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to get inside – we had to go back into town to catch a bus – but we had a quick look around the grounds. It’s very overgrown, there are big signs saying renovations, security (ie: the usual) but there was no evidence of any of this. It was called Australia World College, I have (quickly) googled it and come up with nothing, so I’m not sure about the history of the place, it’s quite large – for those in Christchurch it’s about the length of the Christchurch Boys High School main block, about as deep, but with several towers which make it appear significantly larger – and very run-down, there’s graffiti everywhere (I guess the teens in Katoomba have nothing better to do) and the main building is quite tightly boarded up. |
