Kimberly was a great few hours exploring! We walked for miles, i had no idea how big the place was! We started off looking at some old abandoned houses right next door to the hospital, we figure they must have been sorta “halfway houses” a lot of them had been broken into already, we had a scope and sure enough some desperate dipshits had been in there and ripped out all the copper etc! Next we went through a side gate and had a wander around the main hospital grounds, exploring where we could.. By the time we had finished looking around it was dark, we got back to the car and OOPS the police are waiting for us! Ended up being all good though, they searched the car to make sure we hadnt stolen anything and we told them where we had been and that we didnt damage anything, “just interested in the history” etc etc so they let us off, were lucky though one of them seemed to realllly want to arrest us! But I guess other than having a good look around, we didnt really do anything wrong! Close one anyway.. If youre interested in exploring this place be careful!!

I used to be a support worker for a company contracted by the govt to look after ex ‘clients’ (patients/prisoners) of Kimberly. I really want to go to this place but i have heard a lot of stories about some horrific abuse that used to go on in this place. Makes me sad. A lot of the patients that were here were dumped by their families when they were little children never to see their families again and to grow up only ever knowing the inside of this complex.

sadly this was the way things were done back in the days when institutionalised care for the mentally ill was the norm.

my theory is that the abuse that occurred in virtually every old asylum is symptomatic of this this institutional approach – a la the stanford prison experiment

i’m guesing that this was eventually recognised by the doctors and this is what led to the current state of the mental health system, where only the most dangerous and at-risk people are actually locked away.

Thats fuct up man! Yep this sort of behaviour is still rife in our mental wards. . “One-third of the guards were judged to have exhibited “genuine” sadistic tendencies” Go figure.

yeah man, it doesnt surprise me. i’m pretty much convinced its a case of the environment turning people into monsters rather than sadistic fucks being attracted to the job.. of course theres always exceptions like mengele and freeman)

you should hunt down the video on the stanford prison experiment – im pretty sure its on thepiratebay or mininova… its pretty shocking how quickly the students fall into their roles as guards or prisoners and begin to exhibit either abusive or submissive behaviour(depending on their role).

I dunno. In the case of Mengele i believe he definitely had ‘sadistic’ tendencies (an under statement). Environment was definitely a factor For him being able to conduct the experiments he did, it’s pretty shocking. And i don’t know to much about Freeman. But I did watch this thing on Touretts the other day and now they are inserting electrodes deep into the brain to stimulate Something or rather. This is a direct follow on from Freeman’s work. It may be un-ethical now but at the time it was cutting edge therapy. drool’s all over himself

dude freeman was an unqualified quack who called his vehicle the “lobotomobile”.

i very much doubt the research your talking about stems from what freeman did, he’s pretty much widely discredited as a sadistic psycho who most like got some sort of sick pleasure out of destroying his patients victim’s personalities

I just read that wiki page. I must have the name of that other guy wrong. An ice pick. Right-o. I can’t belive the US govt would let this wack job drive around in his “lobotomobile” mincing people’s frontal lobes. That is just insane.

This type of shit scares the absolute crap out of me. It was way too easy for this psychopath to go around fucking peoples brains. I bet quite alot of them shouldn’t have even been in a mental institution. Someone can say your crazy and in you go drugged up to fuck. When you try say “I’M NOT FUCKING CRAZY !!” they’ll definitely think you are

Yeah same here man. This shit happens today they just dont stick a fork in ya brain now they mince it with drugs instead. My friend was commited a few years ago cause he had a break down(something some of us might go through during tough times). His parents said all this stuff which got him commited and the docs stuck him on all these anti psychotic drugs when all he needed was a nice holiday. Mental!

We had a bipolar mate who got commited for a while, definitly did her more harm than good. Her parents were the ones that had her commited, and after visiting her a few times and actually meeting a zombie, her friends fought the parents to get her out. Was tough times. Shes on good meds and fine now tho:)

I got a skitzoid mate and we were drinking one night. Decided it might be a good idea to take one (1) of his colonzapan’s.. (haha colon) Got home and was literally a dribbling mess for 3 days. I don’t know how anyone can function on that shit.

Nice name to call a mate with some issues. Dribbling for 3 days sounds like an exaggeration.

He is skitzoid. Not my words bud his, along with other descriptions like, nuts, mental, craze, psychotic. And yes it was about 3 days. My pillow is covered in drool stains. I can take a pic if you want. I suggest you go try it yourself and see.

Hospitals always have the most interesting histories, its cool talking to caretakers/ex staff and patients too! There was a car at kimberly, and we were looking for its owner at some stage, we were going to go introduce ourselves and have a chat, but couldnt find them. Obviously they saw us tho:( Never mind, once we explained to the police they were fine! Its good to talk to owners etc where possible, too many people just run! Most of the time they are pretty cool about stuff (with obvious exceptions such as tansix) and let you look around, I think most of them are just worried about vandals etc
