captainpete's experience @ Heathcote Malt WorksPigeon ShitMy first expedition to the works. I cruised along there with some of the ARS crew a few nights back. They showed me around the place a little. Being my first time there I didn’t realise a lot had changed since their last voyage. A ladder had been shifted and someone had “unlocked” a door with their boot. A long dusty tunnel was crawled through—which made for great fun and and claustrophobic exercise. There were pipes and dust and weird structures everywhere. It felt like I was in a space sewer! It’s been a while since I’ve climbed around like that so I was a bit rusty. My night vision and confidence isn’t what it used to be. The highlight was checking out the equipment in the old hangar. There was an old plane in there, ZK-EDK I think. Can anyone remember? Also several packed up microwave satellite dishes, the cable for them and the TX appliance for 1.8GHz 2kW operation. I’d be interested to know what these things were used for. Rarely do I get to see such equipment up close and wireless communication has always been an interest of mine. There were also crates of empty white vinegar bottles and a boxing machine. The place feels like it has some stories to tell but at present all I can offer is conjecture. Plenty of bird shit and dead pigeons. If you go to this place watch out of big holes/shafts leading to basement levels dotted all over the grass and in the halls and between buildings. Some of them are semi-covered so be wary. |
