On a Sunday drive we drove to Oamaru, from Timaru in search of PORF , the TelstraClear code for a comms shack somewhere on the coast. We found PORF in the end but on the way we managed to stumble across some old WWII gun embankments. The whole area is being restored. The locks on the buildings with doors are similar to the ones at Godley Head near Christchurch. There are several ruins that we nearly missed entirely because of the pine needles. There is an interesting looking fenced off area down the hillside a bit. Would be good to go back there with more time at some stage.
