ok, we have now been into every room (that we can find), and it is, excuse my french, fucking amazing. It was only abandoned recently (2005 – 2006ish we think) so theres still alot of interesting stuff. fire extinguishers, food and equipment, i even found a fucking laptop! it was, of course, a hunk of shit with 1mb of ram, and a 20mb hardrive that was only a word processor but you get what i mean about it being interesting. I always thought the Maltworks was the coolest urbex location, but this is ten times better. theres electricity, running water etc BUT NO ALARMS !!!! my only recommendation is to go during the day, it’s much better. We’ve been there multiple times during the day, with no security scares, but the one time we went at night a guard had a bit of a snoop round. we outclassed him and got away of course :P once your inside of one room, you can get into every other room on the site. this should be everyones next target. it’s brilliant. we had a bit of fun with the chalk and hid the porn mags we found lol. If ya find them, leave them :P i wrote “slack ninja” on the ground, took a photo, then scrubbed it away with a broom, so no-one would see it and try to shut it down lol. but yeah, great place, and if you go, go at day time to avoid any guards, although people do walk through the car park as a short cut so watch the windows. I’m uploading a “best of” of all the photos we took. I’d be interested to see any one else’s. Ask if you’ve got any questions.

unfortunately, my mates camera died before we could take photos of the real interesting places IE the cafeteria.

great work guys! you bet us, noticed your ladder and shit, have to be faster off the mark next time. I’ve remove a few of the more dodgy photos, don’t want to incriminate yourself too much ;)

sweet dudes – we’ve been sniffing around this place for a week or two but had refrained from posting anything since we hadn’t gone inside – that was gonna be this weekend ;)

ive got a few shots from on top of the water tower and some of the A/C crap on the roof. looks like we’re gonna have to pick up our game and get inside now :D

why are all the good places in chch..

i dont believe chch has an extraordinary amount of abandonments/locations etc.. i used to think there was fuck-all around here, but after a while i seemed to have acquired a bit of a knack for spotting abandonments/interesting structures/potential places for scaling buildings etc. keeping an eye on the media for things like factory closures/large public works can be a good way to find out about places too.

hit up your local library or even the museum – one time i went and talked to some museum caretakers i could barely get a word in – they were falling over themselves to tell me everything and anything that they knew about the surrounding area.

i think auckland potentially has alot of decent drains (something which chch is definitely lacking in) due to its hilly nature and large urban sprawl. one of the old tricks is to look on maps for places where rivers/creeks dissapear, this almost always indicates a pipe.

true yeah, alot of abandonments up here have cheesy shit like tour guides, like the cement works up in warkworth that closed down in 1929/ i actully cheaked out some tunnels in howick the other day, didnt get too far, but they are massive and run for miles and eventully end up in huge concrete rooms, apparantly.
