happened to be driving past here last night - big corrugated iron fence has been erected down the entire peer st side of the building and maybe more... im guessing the renovations are in full swing, might be the end of this place as a urbex hangout :(

rob commented on grifstar's post about 22 hours ago

i think christchurch/canterbury has a terrible track record for saving historical builings. apparently we lack certain legal protections that other centres such as wellington and auckland have that can be used to help preserve old buildings. taken from "here":http://canterburyheritage.blogspot.com/2008/04/saving-canterburys-heritage_10.html : "Statistics from the Ministry for the Environment suggest Christchurch has the highest number consents which are not notified or have limited notification of any New Zealand city – just 113 limited and notified consents out of 5,241 applications in the last four years. This allows substantial developments to proceed with little or any reference to the community. City Council officers say this is allowable under the current town plan and that this is in turn based around the Resource Management Act. This policy allows the community little chance for input into developments that may end up in the destruction of heritage buildings." ...read more

If its going to get demolished, couldn't someone offer to purchase this building and pay to relocate it? i'm sure the land is more valuable than the building its self. Most Trusts don't really give a 200% effort to try and save historic places and buildings. id be interested in the actual percentage. Buildings saved vs demolished.

pretty sure his definition of chicks is anything thats wearing a skirt and/or lipstick. i reckon we should go to that old BYO karaoke joint on hereford - that place is essentially lawless and theres not many things that are more fun than getting rotten drunk and yelling along to midi renditions of judas priest.

rob commented on tangy's post 8 days ago

wasted space? what a fucking joke - it'll only get torn down and become a bloody carpark or nasty tilt-slap monstrosity that will age terribly. with commuter rail looking more and more like a good idea (i question if it was ever a bad one) it would be a real shame to see this go.

tangy commented on covert_one's comment 8 days ago

hah fuck that, this mansion isn't for getting trashed. i reckon we should hit mickey Finns and then rock pool, like dirusion said. Ill pencil in Saturday the 18th of July, have some pre-drinks before we roll. It would be nice if some chicks came along so dirtyfilthy could get his game on.

dirtyfilthy commented on fisticuff's experience 14 days ago

good job on the update

fisticuff commented on rob's comment 14 days ago

yeah, the safe-door handles had been removed - probably in a previous attempt of entry. I guess they didn't figure it would take so long to break on through the walls - the amount of reinforcing is kinda impressive, as is the 'quality' of the concrete.

rob commented on fisticuff's experience 14 days ago

thats awesome man - i was expecting to hear that they'd found the previous owner in there aye ;) so tearing the door out was the only way they were able to get into the vault? so much for the safe-cracking expert with the stethoscope..

dirtyfilthy commented on howie's comment 16 days ago

I reckon if the SIS were gonna complain they would have complained about the dam...

rob commented on howie's comment 18 days ago

if all goes to plan we'll be staying in aucks for a weekend but plan to head further north to checkout some places - gonna have a car and keen to see as much as possible so pretty much anything is on the cards eh :)

howie commented on howie's post 18 days ago

Hey Rob, Dont look very edible do they? Was on the Sydney scene many moons ago until I came to NZ for several years. Just left NZ for sunny old London Town. Will be back in Kiwiland soon but your roadtrip may be a little post my arrival. SlackNinja being an open site, Im interested to see what response you may elicit off of SIS? For the roadtrip, how far north are going? All the way to Kaitaia or just to the Nth Shore? Howie.

rob commented on howie's post 18 days ago

hey dude - hailing from aussie i'm guessing? :) how long ago was it that you were in auckland? we're doing a road trip up north later this year that will finish up there, we've had pretty shit luck with drains here too so we'll definitely be making the effort to see what aucks has to offer in that regard. !http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2161/2200806195_249b9a768d.jpg!:http://www.flickr.com/photos/ranger_gav/2200806195/ i think i know what you mean ;)

rob commented on nikkorn's post about 1 month ago

sup bro! Theres a wee bit of old military stuff around Christchurch.. the most interesting sites are at Godley Head, Battery Point and Ripapa Island. Theres also a massive underground cavern in the Cashmere Hills that was originally built to as the HQ for the NZ Military should the yellow peril reach our shores(iirc ;), it was never completed but they did manage to dig out a fairly big underground space in the guts of that hill. It actually got forgotten after the war until it was re-discovered about 15-20years ago. Unfortunately its now used by the university to house a multi-million-dollar ringlaser system that measures the the rate at which the earth's rotation is slowing down (or something like that), so the chances of sneaking in there are slim-to-none, there are guided tours of the place every now and then though :) Godley Head is a cool place, but its not really in the greatest of condition, there is however a sealed-off bunker which _was_ accessible via an airshaf...read more

Rob has suggested we could totally have a meet up for the sex and the city movie, then we could go out into town and score some hot dudes anyone keen?

phobophile commented on piggy's comment about 1 month ago

that poem sucks dude!!!

piggy commented on orchidsuicide's experience about 1 month ago

yeah you getting paraletically drunk to the point of barely being able to stand up and smashing windows, bottles, doors, roofs and what not ruined kingseat for everyone. gues you havent read the ethical rules about exploring clearly written on every urbex site including this one...

rob commented on millsy's post about 1 month ago

after you log in, there should be an 'Add location' link in the 'Login' panel on the right-hand side of the site. this'll take you to a page with a map, position the marker onto the place you want to add and hit the grey 'add location' button thats located to the left of the map window. once you've added a location, you can then add an experience, to which you can upload photos and videos :) the upload process can be a little slow/buggy at times - the server could really do with more ram - but it does work! :) keen to see the pics!

orchidsuicide commented on phobophile's comment about 1 month ago

Haha yeah, that door we went through was compelty boarded up and as soon as i drove it they followed my car and told me it was private property and that i had to leave!! hahaha oh well, that was a very interesting experience.

phobophile commented on orchidsuicide's comment about 1 month ago

wtf? someone told ya to fuck off? lol. bloody teenagers, no respect these days!!! must of been all those window-breaking shenanigans we got up to last time. piggy was right dammit. at least now he can write a poem about it :)

phobophile commented on dirtyfilthy's comment about 1 month ago

what? then you could stop paying people for beatings? you goddam degenerate :)

rob commented on millsy's comment about 1 month ago

ah.. you're the second person to tell me that about lake alice, i'm still keen as check it out though (and have tentative plans for a north-island visit later this year ;) how long ago did you visit there and do you know what its being used for currently? i have to admit that i get a fair bit of enjoyment out of looking at something like the side of some old building or a wee cranny at the end of an alleyway and seeing a ladder - its like a puzzle that encompasses aspects of critical thinking, problem solving and physical ability. it also seems to take a bit of practice. once you begin thinking about your environment in a certain way, you start seeing potential ladders/climbing routes everywhere around you! :) its also really hard to beat the sense of achievement you get after you've clambered onto a roof, shimmied your way up a narrow gap between a wall and some old mechanical relic and then forced yourself through a hole you'd swear you shouldn't be able to fit through....read more

millsy commented on rob's comment about 1 month ago

Hey Rob, You would be lucky if you wanted to get into Lake Alice these days, security guards, trip wires, everything - there has been a lot of effort gone into keeping people out... When I talk about risking life and limb, I mean climing into windows and going up gantries, etc....stuff that can get you hurt if youre not careful. Not my thing....getting carted out of Kingseat in a stretcher is not my idea of enjoying life *smile*...

How did you manage to lease a place??? I found it so difficult and then the last time i drove down there we got told to fuck off straight away. ut yeah because there are still buildings that are way too derelict to lease they are sooo just begging to be explored. I thought it would be wicked mto just pretent you were looooking for the bathroom hahaa and just explore at night!!!!

funnyfarm commented on orchidsuicide's photo about 1 month ago

I can see my house in this one! It is a great view over the field out of the bathroom window

funnyfarm commented on orchidsuicide's experience about 1 month ago
