Experiences at Godley Head

Godley Head sealed bunker by dirusion about 1 month ago – 0 photos – rated 57.5%

About 10 years ago I was lucky enough to be able to get into the sealed bunker under Godley Head. Unfortunately it was purely opportunistic and no camera was taken along. We found that a few of the iron bars on the airvent stopping people from getting in had been bent aside and we were able to squeeze through and find there was a dodgey rope ladder dangling down into the bunker. I can't remember how deep it went but it seemed to take a very long time to reach the bottom and inside was much bigger than I expected. engine room

i added my experience to this one because i'm not exactly sure of its location on the map, all i know is that it was at godley head. we pulled into a car park and it was the end of a long day so we only went to a near by bunker, and two other buildings down a path. they have signs in them telling you what the buildings used to be used for, i remember one was an engine room, but fucked if i can remember what the other building was. again, i wasn't too excited about this spot, too many people/hikers about and i am personal more into abandoned and decaying places.

Old military buildings still stand in what once a giant rocking chair on the porch of the Banks Peninsula from which Kiwi gunners would fire their shots at approaching Nips. Should they make it close to over the horizon the guns that once were here would have been sufficient to reach them. I have been out there a few times for different reasons. Sight-seeing with family, raves, walks. The place never bores me. Above ground the buildings are pretty wicked looking. Down below there are a few tunnels. There are many buildings in the establishment.... read more
