More than 90 years of aviation history at Wigram, from World War 1 biplanes to modern skydiving, will end in February.

The 250ha airfield, which has been operating since 1916, will make way for about 2000 new houses.

Airfield owner Ngai Tahu Property sent a letter to all tenants this week informing them the airfield will close on February 28 after being closed to air traffic from September.

Plenty of buildings remain, possible tunnel underneath airfield running to near by school. Yet to be confirmed.

...more like a North Island tour but yea.

We gonna be fuckin up ur shit late september/early october this year so if you’re keen to meet up then give us a yell. Starting in Welly and heading up to Aucks via a (mostly) west-coast route – We’ve got a bunch of things on our list, but could possibly be convinced to make a detour if you N.I. locals have a primo location we aren’t aware of.

Not super-keen on giving out the dates & details just yet – kinda don’t want to give away our gameplan – but if you’re serious about meeting up just leave a comment on this news article and I’m sure we can sort something out!

North Island is gonna be walking with a limp for weeks after we’re done with it ;)

A suggested by raptor: the person who authored the experience can now add other users to it from the main experience page by clicking on “add user”. These other users can also edit the experience and add photos to it.

Might be a good idea to go back through your old experiences and add all the people that were there at the time.

More features to do with this coming shortly.
